In Friday Night Lights, we see the town of Dillon, Texas. In order for Henry’s game to gain popularity through the masses, this is what he needed to do, but to Lou, Henry just appeared nuts. Just like the NFL is doing, trying to expand its’ popularity with games over in London a few times per season, Henry too tried to expand operations with one of his coworkers, Lou. Though he was in control of the stats sheet, he was letting these fictional characters “earn” their own stats. Henry more believed that everything happened for a reason. He had less power over this league in his own mind than a real-life commissioner has over actual sports entities such as the National Football League and/or Major League Baseball. Instead of having a fan send up a prayer in hopes of their team doing well, Henry was the god-like figure of this league in which he created. In Universal Baseball Association, Henry essentially took out the middle man. Often, while watching a close game, in the stands you can see people with their hands folded and even mouths moving, yet they aren’t talking to anyone next to them. True sports fans are very passionate about their team, and the sure thought of a loss can cause devastation. On October 22, when Penn State defeated the Buckeyes, or this past Wednesday when the Cubs won the World Series for the first time since 1908, the only explanation I can give was “God saw it fit for this to happen.” He is the explanation I use when I can’t explain something.
